JOB TITLE: Clerk-Playground 

 

REPORTS TO: Principal

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY 

To improve the educational program by assisting the attendance secretary and the instructional staff. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

The Playground clerk shall have a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent and be competent in the duties to be performed. The employee shall have a high level of competence in clerical skills as demonstrated by the District’s skills assessments. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  1. Supervise students at recess and lunch. 
  2. Check playground equipment for needed repairs and report any items needing repair to the principal.
  3. Monitor classrooms when teacher is in an IEP or staff meeting. 
  4. Assist with supervising in-school suspension. 
  5. Assist with bus supervision at the beginning and end of the day. 
  6. Assist with the typing and duplicating of material for teachers. 
  7. Assist secretary with answering of telephone, student record keeping, typing of new student folders and records as well as filing of records 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES 

  1. All other duties as assigned by the supervisor. 
  2. Effectively communicate, verbally and in written form, with students, administrators, staff, and the community as needed. 
  3. Maintain the confidential nature of all school-related matters. 
  4. Operate office machinery. 
  5. Attend in-service workshops related to the job description to remain current. 

MENTAL DEMANDS 

Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations and perform in a fast-paced environment. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required. The employee will occasionally lift, carry, move, push, or pull up to 20 pounds. 

This employee must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions (rain, heat, snow, and cold) due to playground supervision and bus duty.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 

Employment will be on an at-will basis for 9 months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Each playground clerk will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate. 

 

Four hours (including a 15-minute non-paid lunch period) will constitute a workday for the playground clerk. A definite daily schedule will be established by the building principal and approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel. 

 

The yearly salary will be disbursed in nineteen (19) equal payments or twenty-four (24) equal payments per employee’s choice. 

 

EVALUATION 

Performance of this job will then be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
