JOB TITLE: Special Education Behavioral Specialist

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Intervention and Behavior Support Services 

 

FLSA: Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY 

The Special Education Behavioral Specialist will develop, implement, and promote the effectiveness of behavior strategies and behavior therapy programs throughout the Fort Zumwalt School District. 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

The Special Education Behavioral Specialist shall have appropriate certification and licensing, and experience in autism and behavior analysis. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Provide direct services as needed and/or consultative services about the needs of children with Autism or other behavior concerns at all age/grade levels enrolled in the Fort Zumwalt School district and the ECSE program.
  2. Provide needs assessments for children with Autism or other behavior concerns. 
  3. Provide in-service training for teachers, parents, and staff as needed. 
  4. Participate in a collaborative approach with all service providers, including parents, to meet the educational needs of students with Autism and/or behavior concerns. 
  5. Complete necessary paperwork in a timely fashion. 
  6. Submit a year-end summary report to the Director for Special Education by the end of the school year.
  7. Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Assistant Superintendent for Special Services. 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES 

  1. Possess the ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed. 
  2. Possess a valid driver’s license to travel between district buildings as necessary. 

MENTAL DEMANDS 

Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this position an employee is regularly required to drive, sit, talk, and hear. Close vision ability to look at a computer screen for long periods of time is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 

Salary and work year will be in accordance with the current teacher salary schedule. Seven and one-half hours (including a non-paid 30-minute lunch period) will constitute a workday. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, needs dictate.

 

EVALUATION 

End of the year performance evaluations will then continue annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional staff personnel.
