JOB TITLE: Student Nutrition Services Trainer

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Nutrition Services

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY The Student Nutrition Services Trainer plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and adherence to nutritional standards within the Fort Zumwalt School District. This individual will be responsible for training and developing kitchen managers, cooks, baristas, dishwashers, and cashiers to maintain high standards of food safety, nutrition, and service quality.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate will have a Serve-Safe certificate, at least 2 years of experience working in a public school cafeteria, and a strong understanding of food safety regulations, nutritional guidelines, and meal planning. This person must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and train staff members from diverse backgrounds and abilities. This person must have a valid driver’s license, a CDL, or the ability to get one within 30 days of starting the position.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Develop and deliver comprehensive training for kitchen managers, cooks, baristas, dishwashers, and cashiers on food preparation, safety protocols, sanitation standards, and customer service.

2. Collaborate with the district's nutrition team to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing school meal programs.

3. Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.

4. Provide ongoing support and guidance to kitchen staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in nutrition services.

5. Develop educational materials and resources to support staff training and promote healthy eating habits among students.

6. Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to school nutrition services.

7. Foster a positive, inclusive work environment promoting teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.

8. Assist in the development and implementation of special programs or initiatives aimed at promoting nutrition education and wellness within the school community.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

1. Effectively communicate, in both verbal and written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.

2. All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

3. Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff-related information.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to maintain highly confidential information; communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and/or ability to reason and make appropriate decisions in high-stress situations. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a dynamic work environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this position an employee will be required to stand, walk, and move around the kitchen facility for extended periods. Have the manual dexterity and coordination for handling kitchen equipment and utensils. Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT The Student Nutrition Trainer will work mainly in school cafeterias. Exposure to kitchen hazards such as hot surfaces and sharp objects. A fast-paced and sometimes noisy kitchen environment. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Employment will be on an at-will basis for nine months, beginning with the first day of the work calendar or at the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated personal leave. Each employee will be provided a yearly work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employees. The work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate. A definite daily schedule will be established by the Director of Student Nutrition Services and approved by the Deputy Superintendent. The yearly salary will be disbursed in nineteen (19) equal payments or twenty-four (24) equal payments per employee’s choice.

 

EVALUATION End-of-the-year performance evaluations will occur annually per the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of support staff personnel.
