School Social Work Practicum Placement (2024-2025 School Year Internship) 

Multiple Positions Available

Mental Health Professional Interns must be enrolled in programs affiliated with Washington University, UMSL, St. Louis University, or Lindenwood or Maryville Master's Level Counseling students.

  • Required commitment of 3 school days per week for one full school year
  • Concentration Practicum Students Only
  • $5,000 stipend for the school year pending board approval 
  • August 2023 - June 2024 (Exact dates TBD)

School District:

  • Will work with 13 social workers placed within the district
  • Student population of over 17,000 students 
    • 16 Elementary Schools
    • 4 Middle Schools
    • 4 High Schools 
    • 2 Alternative Schools 
    • 1 Early Childhood Center 

Mental Health Professional Intern responsibilities, with the help of their supervisor, may include:

  • Individual and group counseling in depression, anxiety, divorce, social skills, substance abuse, behavior disorders, suicidal ideation, grief and loss, eating disorders, and more.
  • Administering suicidal and homicidal assessments
  • Participating in the Special Education Process of developing goals and IEP team decision-making regarding social-emotional goals and treatment. 
  • Conduct needs assessments and connect to community resources
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, school nurses, social workers, and other school personnel to provide a team approach for each student's needs.
  • Providing crisis management services and participate in the district’s crisis response team
  • Advocating for students’ and families’ best interests
  • Participating in-home visits for the purpose of gathering information on the student’s background and for developing cooperative home-school relationships
  • Developing and presenting staff in-service training program 
  • Participate in PAS (long-term suspension) program for students providing education groups and counseling for students and their families.
  • Identify and provide monthly support to Families in Transition
